 Rachel DeMunda is Director of Environmental Health and Safety for Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, a 300 bed facility with approximately 2,500 employees. She has seventeen years experience managing environmental and occupational safety and health programs and staff. She spent the majority of her career in higher education, but transitioned to healthcare three years ago. She provides the overall planning and leadership for strengthening the Medical Center’s environmental and safety management initiative in order to promote the concept of sustained development and the designation of a “green institution” and safety culture.

 Paul Myers is the Acting Safety Manager and GEMS Coordinator at the VA Medical Center in Huntington WV. He has served the VA for 28 years. Paul graduated from Marshall University with a BS degree in Medical Technology in 1976. As a Med Tech, with an emphasis in Clinical Chemistry, he volunteered to participate as a member of the hospital Safety Committee. This peaked his interest in safety and environmental concerns and when an Industrial Hygiene position opened at the Medical Center in 1990 he applied and was selected. He managed the Industrial Hygiene section and gradually began expanding his responsibilities into Environmental Programs. He received his Masters in Occupational Safety & Health in 1997.
In 2004 Paul became the Green Environmental Management (GEMS) Coordinator at the VA, a position he presently holds. His medical center is a recipient of the following H2E Awards:
