Further Information on Recycling
Recycling is a waste reduction strategy used to minimize waste disposal by nearly all commercial and industrial sectors throughout the U.S. As a result, there are many resources available that provide information on how to establish a recycling program, what materials can be recycled, and how to promote and expand recycling programs. Although many are not specific to health care facilities, the resources provided below offer valuable information that can be easily adapted for your facility’s use.

EPA’s Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle website provides information on producing less waste by practicing the 3 Rs, as follows. Reduce the amount and toxicity of trash that is discarded. Reuse containers and products; repair what is broken or give it to someone who can repair it. Recycle as much as possible, which includes buying products with recycled content.
EPA’s Recycling Municipal Solid Waste Website
EPA’s website on recycling municipal solid waste presents information on the recycling process, recycling facts and figures, recycling opportunities, and recycling publications. The website also includes related links to organizations regarding specific recyclable materials.
