H2E Founders

Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E) was jointly founded by the American Hospital Association, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Health Care Without Harm, and the American Nurses Association. Learn more about H2E’s founders below.

American Hospital Association

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is the national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. Close to 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, and providers of care, as well as 37,000 individual members come together to form the AHA. For more information about AHA’s involvement in H2E, contact Patti Costello

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment – air, water, and land – upon which life depends. For 30 years, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people. For more information about the U.S. EPA’s involvement in H2E, contact Tom Murray.

Health Care Without Harm

Health Care Without Harm is a global coalition working to transform the health care industry so it is no longer a source of harm to people and the environment. The organization promotes comprehensive pollution prevention practices and supports the development and use of environmentally safe materials, technology and products. It also educates and informs health care institutions, providers, workers, consumers, and all affected constituencies about the environmental and public health impacts of the health care industry. For more information about HCWH’s involvement in H2E, contact Anna Gilmore-Hall.

American Nurses Association

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is a full-service professional organization representing the nation’s 2.9 million Registered Nurses through its 54 constituent member associations and 16 organizational affiliate members. ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the economic and general welfare of nurses in the workplace, projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing, and by lobbying the Congress and regulatory agencies on health care issues affecting nurses and the public. For more information about ANA’s involvement in H2E, contact Nancy Hughes.
